One of Mallnitz’ summer highlights takes place every year, at the end of July, when two of the most anticipated events: the Carinthian National Park Festival and the Edelweiss Trophy join forces for almost 24 hours of sport, culinary delights, live music, fun and much more.

On the certified running tracks around the national park, in the heart of the Hohe Tauern is the playground for the  5 categories of the Edelweiss Trophy – competition:  the half marathon, the 10 km run, the 4 km run, the Nordic Walking competition and the special “Children and Bambini” race.

Thus the great varity of  categories guarantees, that no age group or training level is being left out ….For the younger participants, there’s the “Children and Bambini” Run. While amateurs, beginners and Nordic Walking – enthusiasts will probably enjoy the 4km track the most. As for those who aim farther, the 10 km running trail is the ideal choice.

However, the main attraction and challenge is undoubtedly the half marathon. The officially certified Mallnitz’ half marathon track is unique: it leads up to the National Park Hohe Tauern, the Tauern and Seebach Valley, amidst the impressive mountain world with its 3,000 meter high peaks, thundering waterfalls and steep slopes, while being at the same time nearly flat and ideal for running.

Besides, due to it’s high altitude location, ranging  from 1200 to 1300 meters, the Mallnitz’ running routes are also ideal for high-altitude training conditions.

And all the training and effort will have paid off, the very moment you cross the finish line:

The cheer and the applause, the prizes and the medals and of course the big ceremony where the winners of each category receive the grand prize – a holiday weekend in Mallnitz. In addition, all participants, regardless of their placement, participate in a prize raffle.

However, those not competing will be rewarded too, as there’s more than plenty of entertainment and surprises awaiting each and everyone:

The food stands around the village center are well prepared for every culinary wish you might have: from spareribs and Bratwurst to Paella, from ice cold beer to Schnaps shots, from special homemade cakes to the traditional Apflestrudel and Kaiserschmarn. And there’s of course the live band, the dancing and the celebration, the information booths of the National Park Hohe Tauern, a small animal petting zoo and much much more.
